Nashik

Nashik is India's wine country and one of its oldest pilgrimage cities at the same time — vineyards on the outskirts, the Godavari ghats in the middle of town.

It is an easy four hours from Mumbai and five from Pune, which makes it a genuine long-weekend destination rather than a day trip.

Sula and the surrounding vineyards run tastings year-round; Trimbakeshwar and Panchavati draw a very different crowd on the same weekend.
